Basin & Surface Water Management Area: Shoalwater Creek
Introduction
Shoalwater system a catchment area of 3705 sq km is located some 80km north of Rockhampton. It is bounded to the west by the Styx system and to the south by the Fitzroy River system. Shoalwater Creek, one of the main streams in the system, flows eastwards into the sea at Shoalwater Bay. Another major creek in the system includes Herbert Creek flowing northwards into the sea.
The mean annual rainfall for the catchment for the 50 year period 1920 to 1969 varies between 800 mm and 2000 mm across the catchment.

This SWMA is in an isolated area with little or no development. Rainfall is distinctly seasonal and extremely variable on an annual basis. There is little demand water in this catchment due to its isolation and low population.
