Basin & Surface Water Management Area: Don River
Introduction
The Don River SWMA in North Queensland is bounded by the Clarke Range. The catchment contains medium to scattered vegetation. The major town, Bowen, is located at the mouth of the Don River. Mean annual rainfall ranges from 1000 mm to 1600 mm across the catchment. The major streams in the catchment are the Don River, Elliott River and Euri Creek. Water is used for urban and horticultural purposes on the coastal flats.

A four-class classification system was developed to provide a simple method to communicate the status of the use and allocation of Australia's water resources in relation to sustainable water management.
