Basin & Surface Water Management Area: Calliope River
Introduction
The Calliope River, west of Gladstone, rises in the Calliope Range and flows in an easterely direction. Its catchment area is some 2255sq km. The main tributaries are Oakey, Paddock and Larcom Creeks. The catchment is bounded by the Mt Larcom Range to the east and Calliope Range to the west.
The mean annual rainfall for the catchment for the 50 year period 1920 - 1969 varies between 800mm and 1000mm across the catchment.

A four-class classification system was developed to provide a simple method to communicate the status of the use and allocation of Australia's water resources in relation to sustainable water management.
