HASTINGS RIVER
Assessment Of River Condition
The Hastings Camden Haven catchment of some 4500 square kilometres is situated on the Mid North Coast and extends from the New England tablelands to the Pacific Ocean, encompassing 84 km of coastline. The catchment comprises two major rivers, the Hastings, and the Camden Haven which flows through coastal lakes to the sea. Mean annual rainfall at Port Macquarie is 1550 mm, falling to 1320 mm at Wauchope. Comboyne rainfall is characterised by high intensity storms and averages 1840 mm per annum. Large areas of State Forest and National Park occur in the steep upper reaches of the catchment and on the coast.
The Hastings River Basin (207) ARCE was moderately modified and the ARCB was in reference condition. The basin condition was non-assessed by the hydrological disturbance index, moderately modified based on the catchment disturbance index, largely unmodified based on the habitat index and substantially modified based on the nutrient and suspended load index.
