Monitoring bores close to the river have shown substantial short term rises after major flood events, followed by a period of declining levels. Monitoring bores in highly pumped areas, such as the borefield for the Parkes water supply, show the impact of that pumping. But overall, water levels in all zones within the GMU have shown either an overall slight increase or a zero increase over the time of record (since the mid 1970s).
